Risk Communication Component
The risk communication component aims to facilitate the exchange of risk information among climatologists, entomologists, public health and vector control professionals in relation to the West Nile Virus research project. Foremost, this communication will determine what information technical staff and decision makers need when making their decisions about mosquito vector control and how best to provide that information to these professionals. A secondary objective will examine risk communication with non-technical audiences, such as community residents, related to mosquito vector control.
Our methods include interviewing public health officials at the state, county, and local level to understand how and when they make decisions about mosquito vector control and the types of information that would be most useful to them when making these decisions. These interviews will allow us to determine the best format and method for communicating study results to technical staff and decision makers, as well as to related target audiences.
