Our preliminary research has indicates that adult mosquitos (Culex) populations are typically high during periods of time when precipitation exceeds evaporation. Two maps are provided that show the moisture deficit (rainfall - evaporation) that the region has experienced over the last week and since March 15. Negative values indicate that evapotranspiration exceeded precipitation. Approximately 700 rain gauge sites are used to produce a third map that shows the total rainfall (inches) observed over the last 7 days.
