New York Snow Survey

New York Snow Survey measurements are taken twice monthly, from the beginning of January until the snow on the ground has melted. Survey participants measure snow depth and the water equivalent of the snow on the ground. The data are sent to the Northeast Regional Climate Center, where they are compiled and mapped. Water resource managers throughout the state and region use the data/maps to monitor the potential for winter and spring flooding.
