NY Snow Survey

The water content of snow on the ground as of January 18-20 ranges from less than 1 inch to more than 7 inches.

Every winter the Northeast Regional Climate Center compiles snow water equivalent data taken by volunteers around the state. This survey, which is done every two weeks, is a valuable tool used by water resource managers to monitor the potential for flooding whether due to an unusual warm spell during the winter months or normal spring snowmelt.
