A blizzard dropped more than 2 feet of snow on some parts of the region.
A clipper system moving across the Ohio Valley and a storm moving up the East Coast combined to wallop parts of the Northeast with heavy snow and high winds. Four first-order climate sites set their greatest two-day snowfall total while at four other climate sites the two-day snowfall total anked in their top five greatest. The largest storm total reported was 40.0" in Hamden, CT. Snow totals from northern New Jersey to southern Maine ranged from one to three feet! Coastal regions felt hurricane-force gusts while inland locations dealt with gusts of 40-60 mph. The brutal conditions left around 650,000 customers without power, stranded hundreds of cars, and resulted in at least 12 deaths.
