November precipitation in the Northeast ranged from 25% of normal to 200% of normal, with a large portion of the region being drier than normal. The driest places were found throughout the region and included eastern West Virginia, southern Maryland, central Pennsylvania, southeastern New Jersey, and northeastern Massachusetts. On the opposite end of the spectrum, the wettest locations were in spots like western West Virginia, central New York, and northwestern Vermont. At the region’s 35 major sites, November precipitation ranged from 28% of normal at Dulles Airport, VA, to 180% of normal in Huntington, WV, with 28 sites being drier than normal. This November ranked among the 20 driest Novembers on record for 11 major sites but was among the 20 wettest for two others. Wet weather in northern and interior locations chipped away at drought and abnormally dry conditions.

A large portion of the Northeast also experienced a drier-than-normal fall, with the driest spots like eastern West Virginia and southern Maryland seeing less 50% of normal. However, a few locations were wetter including western West Virginia and northwestern Vermont which saw as much as 150% of normal precipitation. Twenty-nine of the region’s 35 major sites were drier than normal, with precipitation for all sites ranging from 40% of normal at Dulles Airport, VA, to 144% of normal in Huntington, WV. This fall was among the 20 driest for six major sites but was Huntington’s eighth wettest.

November average temperatures ranged from 4°F below normal to 2°F above normal.
November average temperatures in the Northeast ranged from 4°F below normal to 2°F above normal, with much of the region being on the cool side. The greatest departures below normal were in places like northern New York, Vermont, southern Rhode Island, and southeastern Massachusetts, while the greatest departures above normal were generally found in parts of the Mid-Atlantic and Maine. November average temperatures at the region’s 35 major sites ranged from 2.6°F below normal in Albany, NY, to 1.0°F above normal at Dulles Airport, VA, with 27 of the sites being cooler than normal.

Driven by above-normal temperatures in September and October, the fall season averaged out to be warmer than normal for much of the Northeast. The greatest departures above normal of 2°F to 4°F were found throughout the region. This fall ranked among the 20 warmest on record for nine of the 24 warmer-than-normal sites, with average temperatures for all 35 sites ranging from 0.9°F below normal in Erie, PA, to 2.0°F above normal in Islip, NY.

November snowfall ranged from 6 inches below normal to more than 12 inches above normal.
Snowfall amounts during November were within 3 inches of normal for much of the Northeast. However, some locations such as eastern Maine, central New Hampshire, and southwestern Pennsylvania had deficits of up to 6 inches, while northeastern New York had a surplus of over 12 inches. November snowfall at the 35 major sites ranged from 2.5 inches below normal in Concord, NH, to 7.9 inches above normal in Syracuse, NY, with 28 sites seeing reduced snowfall amounts. Despite this, November 2025 ranked among the 20 snowiest Novembers for two major sites.

Wetter than normal weather is expected for December for the entire Northeast, according to NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center. There’s also an increased likelihood that December will average out to be cooler than normal for much of the region, with the greatest chances in an area from northwestern Pennsylvania through a portion of New York and into sections of northern New England. These outlooks for the Northeast are driven by several factors including La Niña conditions.
