Cool, Wet & Dry July
Northern parts of the regions have been very wet, while southern parts are quite dry.
Unlike the temperature pattern, which continues to be cooler than normal throughout the Northeast, rainfall totals have been variable from north to south. The New England states and eastern New York have been quite wet - for example, the rainfall departure from normal through July 23rd at Providence, RI is 6.45 inches, at Worcester, MA, 3.90 inches, and at Hartford, CT, 3.72 inches. The southern half of the region has been much drier this month; so much so that most of Maryland and Delaware are experiencing abnormally dry conditions.
