Summer Comes to an End
Summer was a warm one across the Northeast.
August and climatological summer (June through August) have come to an end and climatological fall (September through November) has begun! Caribou, ME had its warmest August on record while 12 additional First Order stations (out of 35 total) had August averages that ranked within the top ten warmest on record. Summer as a whole was warm, with 19 First Order stations having their top 10 warmest summers. There was quite a range of rainfall in August - Concord, NH had almost 200% of their normal amount but Charleston, WV had only 8% of their normal amount of rain. With only 0.31 inches of rain, it was Charleston’s driest August on record. Summer precipitation amounts have also varied throughout the region and while some areas have had sufficient rainfall, other areas are in severe drought.
