July - Record Warm Nights
July temperatures ranged from just below normal to more than 5°F above normal.
July 2013 was a warm one in the Northeast. Eleven of the twelve Northeast states ranked this July among their top 20 warmest with Rhode Island and Massachusetts having their warmest July on record. Twenty-six of the thirty-five first order sites ranked this July among their top 20 warmest, with three sites setting monthly temperature records.
Minimum temperatures have been running warmer than normal.
While many sites had consecutive days with high temperatures above 90 degrees, warm low temperatures were another contributor. Five climate sites set records for consecutive number of nights (some extending back to June) with a minimum temperature above 70 degrees. For example, Philadelphia, PA, had 30 straight nights where the temperature did not drop below 70 degrees.
