With the exception of Maine, the region saw below-normal winter temperatures.

Temperatures during the winter of 2010-2011 (climatological winter Dec-Feb) have been colder than normal in all the states in the region except Maine. The region’s average temperature was 24.2 degrees, which was 2.0 degrees colder than normal. State departures ranged from -3.3 degrees in Maryland and Delaware to +1.2 degrees in Maine. Several Northeast Cities had averages that were in the top 20 coldest on record, including Elkins, WV, 8th coldest; Bridgeport, CT, 11th coldest; and Buffalo, NY, 14th coldest. On the flip side, Caribou, ME had its 4th warmest winter on record (Caribou’s records go back to 1939).
